First, some achievements actually require you to complete most missions in a specific game (e.g."Completionist" in Mass Effect or "Master and Commander" in Mass Efect 3). Complete every Mission and Assignment, explore every planet, talk to every NPC, exhaust every dialogue option, kill every enemy. When coupled with the huge visual improvements, it seems like the first Mass Effect will be a far more enjoyable experience after this remaster. Before we dive into the thick of things, I'd like to give a very broad advice if you want to unlock most achievements with ease: Do everything. Beyond that, certain boss fights have been redesigned and both friendly and enemy AI has been improved. A dedicated melee button and improved camera systems have been added, while aiming and cover now function more like the game’s more popular sequels. These changes are just the tip of the iceberg, however, as Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is improving the gameplay of Mass Effect in even bigger ways. Auto saves will be fixed as well, occurring more often than they once did, and the game’s many elevator rides have been shortened to remove the awkwardness.

The cumbersome Mako vehicle, for example, has seen its physics changed to remove its bounciness with a speed boost also added for movement. While its story remained strong, its gameplay showed signs of age - though Bioware seems to be fixing this with the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Widely regarded as Mass Effect’s weak link, the original game has become dated over the years. Much like with Metal Gear Solid or Uncharted, multiplayer was never integral to the Mass Effect experience and was simply a bonus whenever it was included - and this is no different with the remasters. In fact, there are several reasons to view the news as a good thing, as leaving the mode out of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition could actually improve the remasters in significant ways. While a small minority of fans will likely be disappointed by this Mass Effect: Legendary Edition news, most should be indifferent to the announcement.

As such, the confirmation that Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer will not be included in the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is hardly a surprise. However, all these iconic features are tied to the singleplayer offerings of Mass Effect, with the co-op survival multiplayer of Mass Effect 3 being largely forgotten. From the terrifying Reapers to in-depth romances and the original trilogy’s strong protagonist, there is plenty to love about Bioware’s SciFi RPG series. When thinking of the Mass Effect franchise and what makes it so iconic, several things come to mind.
